The London Centre for Interdisciplinary Research, in collaboration with the Onisilos MSCA CO-FUND Programme of the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus Oral History Association, and the Chair for Cypriot Studies at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, are organising the “Narrating Lives: International Conference on Storytelling, (Auto)Biography and (Auto)Ethnography”, which will be held at the University of Cyprus (29th of May) and online (30-31 of May).

The conference will focus on the study of life history, as well as (auto)biographical and (auto)ethnographic texts, exploring the meanings of memory, experience, and identity in the construction of human subjectivity and cultural understanding. Through interdisciplinary approaches, it will examine both the theoretical and applied dimensions of life writing, as well as the ethical and political dimensions of this field of research.

Special attention will be given to methods for collecting and analysing personal narratives—from diaries and interviews to social media—while promoting understanding of multicultural others, qualitative inquiry, and narrative writing. The aim is to deepen understanding of the self and the “other” in multicultural settings.

Conference panels will include, but not limited, to:

  • Life Narrative in Historical Perspective
  • Qualitative Research Methods
  • Oral History, Memory and Written Tradition
  • Journalism and Literary Studies
  • Creative Writing and Performing Arts
  • (Auto)Biographical Element in Film Studies, Media and Communication
  • Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy
  • Narrative Medicine
  • Storytelling in Education
  • Ethics and Politics of Research

The Conference is addressed to researchers, scholars, artists, and professionals across the humanities, social sciences, media, and the visual and performing arts, as well as anyone interested in the power of narration in contemporary society.
